Below is a note from
the chairman concerning the floods in Stratford and the coming season.
Also some administrative notes from me for the coming season.
You will all know by
now that Stratford Sports Club was seriously affected by the recent
floods. This has resulted in damage to the club room and bar. Sadly the
dance floor where we have all strutted our stuff over the years has also
fallen victim. As a section we are lucky that we are not too affected.
The Registration Evening will go ahead as planned on 7 September –
Please make a note in your diaries. This is a chance to pick up your
fixture cards and car park stickers, plus share in the free
refreshments!
The squash section
have lost all 3 courts and the snooker tables are probably beyond repair
and the cricket square has suffered.
Fortunately the club
is well insured for the replacement of these and has also got “business
interruption cover” to cover losses on the bar and all other income. The
staff and volunteers have worked incredibly hard to produce some sense
of order and alcoholic refreshment is again available especially for
those attending pre-season training with the new fitness Guru.
Pre-season training is attracting a large following and as we have a
specialist making us sweat, all members are urged to take on the fitness
challenge for the new year. 7:30 at the Club. Contact James Chorley for
details:-

The club will almost
certainly be able to hold our September festival with changing and bar.
It is possible that the whole current area may not be available and will
perhaps be limited to the lounge.
At some stage before
Christmas the club facility will have to close for about 6 weeks for
refurbishment. During this time we will need to use the Astro changing
rooms and find a tolerant pub for liquid and solid refreshment.
The club has been
through this before and the management committee are confident that the
club will come out of the other side stronger. We will need to give
careful consideration to future flood protection and the committee will
be giving this careful consideration through the coming months.
I am sure we will have
a full and enjoyable season.
