21/01/2008 Easter Festival - Weston Super Mare

Want to end up like this?

…….Of course you do. Then it should be obvious what you need to do. Get yourself signed up to the gut-wrenchingly good drinkathon that is Stratford Hockey Club’s

EASTER TOUR !!!

After the chavathon that was Black - sack and crack - pool last year, we have decided that “it’s grim up north” and as such should tour somewhere more southerly. Rather than rush back to Weymouth (they still haven’t cleaned the carpet from 2006), we have decided to sign up for serious scrumpy swigging activity in the glorious land of cider that is ………. Weston - we really hope you’re super – Mare.

As usual tour is over the Easter weekend and we will be staying in Weston on Fri 21st, Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd March, returning on the Easter Monday. Cost will be approximately £125 which includes three nights bed and breakfast, entrance to the festival, a spangly tour shirt….. and more importantly the company of your fellow tourers! (You will need beer money – obviously!)

Please let either Matt Hyatt, Giles Stagg or Rosie Logan know a.s.a.p. if you wish to attend. The quicker the better, as it may be on a first come first served basis. As in previous years, prospective tourers should be over 16 at the time of tour!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

          - Yes I’m coming on tour, I’m insulted you even had to ask.

          - I’ll come on tour as long as I don’t have to be in a room with James Brookes.

         - I’ll say I’m not coming on tour, but will get kidnapped and go anyway (e.g.

Jamie Chorley)

- There is something wrong with me. I have no wish to have a great weekend with my mates playing hockey. I shall sit at home and eat Easter eggs with my imaginary friend Quentin.

13/8/07 Pre Season Registration Night

The 2007/2008 season is just around the corner and the fixture cards are nearly ready. The first event of the season is on 7 September – The Club registration evening.

This is a chance to get to the club – take in a glass of wine and pay your subs for the season. In return we’ll have fixture cards and car park stickers ready. Registration will take place from 6:30 onwards – wine and nibbles will be provided free of charge.

13/8/07 Flood Damage

Below is a note from the chairman concerning the floods in Stratford and the coming season. Also some administrative notes from me for the coming season.

You will all know by now that Stratford Sports Club was seriously affected by the recent floods. This has resulted in damage to the club room and bar. Sadly the dance floor where we have all strutted our stuff over the years has also fallen victim. As a section we are lucky that we are not too affected.

The Registration Evening will go ahead as planned on 7 September – Please make a note in your diaries. This is a chance to pick up your fixture cards and car park stickers, plus share in the free refreshments!

The squash section have lost all 3 courts and the snooker tables are probably beyond repair and the cricket square has suffered.

Fortunately the club is well insured for the replacement of these and has also got “business interruption cover” to cover losses on the bar and all other income. The staff and volunteers have worked incredibly hard to produce some sense of order and alcoholic refreshment is again available especially for those attending pre-season training with the new fitness Guru.

Pre-season training is attracting a large following and as we have a specialist making us sweat, all members are urged to take on the fitness challenge for the new year. 7:30 at the Club. Contact James Chorley for details:- chorley53@btinternet.com

The club will almost certainly be able to hold our  September festival with changing and bar. It is possible that the whole current area may not be available and will perhaps be limited to the lounge.

At some stage before Christmas the club facility will have to close for about 6 weeks for refurbishment. During this time we will need to use the Astro changing rooms and find a tolerant pub for liquid and solid refreshment.

The club has been through this before and the management committee are confident that the club will come out of the other side stronger. We will need to give careful consideration to future flood protection and the committee will be giving this careful consideration through the coming months.

I am sure we will have a full and enjoyable season.

Nigel Wood – Chairman SHC

Ian Powell – Secretary SHC
