At the recent Section meeting, it was agreed that the club would enter a team in the Olton Summer League. We have done this and received the fixtures. All matches are scheduled for Olton Hockey Club or at Aylesford School, Warwick. We will publish the fixture list shortly and are looking at the best way for all players to express interest in playing. Dear All,

As many of you will be aware the recent snow resulted in the Club having to play not only its full complement of 5 Saturday games this last weekend but 4 on Sunday also.  We think 9 games in one weekend is some sort of Club record!  All 9 matches were duly played and each one with a full side – although in a few cases it was a close run thing!

To all those who juggled family and other commitments, battled injury or otherwise put themselves out, to ensure we fulfilled all the fixtures – well done and thank you.   The team captains had a long and time-consuming week pulling it together and were grateful for everyone’s support.

There are still a few fixtures to catch up with, and the captains of the team concerned are, or will be, in touch with their squads about those.  However we shouldn’t need to have another “Super Sunday” like the last!

The players awards dinner Sat 23 March, keep it free, it could be you…

Dear all,

As some of you may be aware the month of November is fast approaching. This month is widely regarded as one of the top 12 months of the Calendar year, with Christmas fast approaching, Guy Fawkes Night to look forward to, and even David Schwimmers birthday. Despite all these tremendous things, in recent years, the month has been gaining a reputation as a time when Men can grow facial hair to what would normally be socially unacceptable lengths. Gentleman who are well endowed with bodily hair, so often cast aside by the worrying wave of metrosexuality, are welcomed with open arms, accepted and admired during this time. Where men can show off their Moustaches without fear of ridicule. I am of course talking about MOVEMBER!

The Gameplan

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Therefore we would love to see as many of you badgers taking part in this fun event – 1st team in particular!

The Rules

If you would like to take part in Movember you can register at http://uk.movember.com/get-involved/, this will set you up with a donations page, and is an open forum to show off your Mo, you can also join the team “Stratford Hockey Club”. Alternatively if you would like to raise money through a central place you can contribute to the Stratford Hockey Club Movember Page: http://mobro.co/stratfordhockeyclub.

Each Mo Bro must begin the 1st of Movember with a clean shaven face. For the entire month each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache. There is to be no joining of the mo to the sideburns (that’s considered a beard), there’s to be no joining of the handlebars to the chin (that’s considered a goatee) and each Mo Bro must conduct himself like a true gentleman.

This is not just an event for Mo Bros either, Mo Sistas are welcome too. A Mo Sista is essentially a woman who loves a Mo. An individual that is dedicated to supporting the Mo Bros in her life through their moustache growing journey; whether it be a friend, colleague, family member or partner. These inspirational women are committed to raising awareness of men’s health issues and much needed funds for men’s health along the way. Mo Sistas should also encourage those Mo Bros who are sitting on the fence as to whether to grow that Mo and get them signed up and on board.

The Reason

Movember is not a time for men to simply boast in hairy goodness, but rather to give something back and  raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer. During the month those taking part in Movember are encouraged to raise funds through sponsorship to go towards the following charities: Prostate Cancer UK, The Institute of Cancer Research and the Movember Foundation. Last year worldwide Movember raised a whopping £79.3m for these causes, with almost 1 million people taking part. To find out more about the causes which November supports, please check out: http://uk.movember.com/about/funding-overview/.

So once you have decided to take part (a very easy decision) get the word out to family, friends & colleagues to get sponsoring!

The team sponsorship page, if you cannot choose which Moustache growing gent to support is: http://uk.movember.com/team/708525 so please donate!

For those of you who want to get involved either by growing, sponsoring or encouraging – you would all be welcome – at the same time we have the opportunity to raise funds for a great cause.

Have a good day!
