What an amazing ending to a fantastic season at Stratford Hockey Club with our promoted Men’s 1s being crowned England Hockey Men’s Team of the Year 2019! A huge thank you – not just to the players, but to the coach, the families and the club as they have supported the team throughout the season.

On Saturday 6th April families gathered at the Sport Club for the Junior Awards ceremony and a “free ice cream”. Awards were given for attendence and for most improved players and player of the season from all age groups from U8s to U14s. The Badgers also had awards for the top scorer and the parents player.

What a great event thanks to the Town Trust! Twelve local corporate teams turned up on Friday 5th April to play, many for the first time, in a seven side tournament. The numbers of entrants had doubled so there were two pools of 6, the winners of which were NFU and Travel Councillors. These two met in the final with Travel Councillors met, led by captain Melissa Coleman.

Great fun was had by all at Stratford’s end of season celebration. For the first time 14+ were invited to the event as they are now integrated in the teams throughout the club and were the recipients of many of the awards. The awards were presented first, with Matt Hyatt receiving the Harrison award for Lifetime services to the club. We had 102 members attending the dinner for the first time and the atmosphere was fantastic as all danced the night away to the disco music!

Stratford men’s 1s beat Olton and NW Warks at the weekend 5-1 to win the Midlands 2 league and to get back to back promotions as league champions. They still have 1 game left to play next weekend away against Rugby and E Warks.

Both the U10 girls team and the boys U12 team secured a place in the regional finals. The U10 girls won their final and were crowned ‘County Champions” and the Boys U12 qualified as the runner up in the County tournament. We are all very proud of them and wish them all the best in the regional rounds.

Stratford Men’s first XI have already secured promotion – their second consecutive promotion – but on Saturday they have a chance to be crowned league champions and they need your support. Their game on Saturday is likely to be a very tightly contested game as Olton also look to secure a promotion place. The game is at Stratford High School with a 2pm push back. It would be great to have lots of supporters there to cheer them on.

A new season of Back to Hockey is due to start on Sunday 26th May for 6 weeks 10 – 11am at Stratford School. The cost is £5 per session or £25 if paid in advance. Please contact Janice at [email protected].

A note for the diary, although it should already be pencilled in, this year’s players dinner is on Saturday 30th March at the Sports Club. This is the evening we celebrate the players of the season and our most improved players. It is a great club night and is even better if as many of your team can be there as possible! Your captains will be asking if you want tickets for the event so please check your diaries now!

This year we have decided to move the AGM so that it is within the hockey season rather than at the end when we are all thinking of other things. The Ladies and Men’s captains can still be appointed at their respective section meetings at the end of the season so no need to panic before the AGM. The meeting starts at 7pm and we would like as many of you there as possible.
